Video of 24 Crocker Ave | Vineyard Haven (Martha's Vineyard), Massachusetts real estate & homes

http://www.SandpiperRealty.com - Welcome to Millbank, located on Crocker Avenue overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbor.

As a child in the early 1900’s, Mary Carter Stewart had spent many months on Martha’s Vineyard.  Her father was a doctor stationed at the naval facility on the Island.  Originally from Virginia, Mary Stewart Pogue and her first husband purchased a plot of land with a modest house in Vineyard Haven in 1929. “Why would you want to buy that old house?” a friend asked. “I’m not buying it for the house, I’m buying it for the land,” Mrs. Pogue is reported to have said.  Always forward thinking, she proceeded to rebuild and expand the original house, transforming it into the gracious home that you see today. The generous size of the rooms, the corner cupboards built in the dining room and the elegant flow of space resonate with her childhood home.

The name “Millbank” came from its neighbor, the old mill to the north. Converted from a working mill, The Mill House was owned for many years by Lillian Hellman and Dashiell Hammett. Mike Wallace also was a long time neighbor residing for many summers at “The Barn” below Millbank.

Now, sitting on the porch at Millbank on a summer night, one can hear the town band playing in Owen Park. The neighborhood has remained consistent: quiet and very convenient to town and a short walk to the ferry dock.  Since it was first built, Millbank has been owned by several generations of only one family. The home has always been a welcoming place, the site of many visits, parties, cookouts, guests and wedding celebrations.  Millbank’s constant companion is the array of boats sailing in and out of the harbor and the steady passing of the ferries.
