Built in the style of a Connecticut River Valley Colonial home, the 22-year-old main house brings a colonial past into the contemporary present. The spacious rooms are awash in bright light. Historic details like the Tavern-style kitchen, detailed moldings, carved raised-panel cherry cabinets, and stenciled walls call to mind the storied homes of America’s historic gentry.
That history is firmly rooted and built upon an agrarian society. Thomas Jefferson looked after his own fields and so did Boulder Hill Farm’s earliest owners. This was an active working farm where the Lambert family raised livestock until it was inherited by javelin-throwing Olympian Bill Alley. Local lore holds that before the farm passed hands to Alley, the Lamberts buried their beloved bull "Hedgerows Maximilian" on the land where he faithfully protected the family's heifers. Now, deer pay homage to him at dawn and dusk when they dance among the grasses he used to graze.
